What makes HireVue different from a normal interview
How to prepare for HireVue with ScreenReady
Select the company you're interviewing with. ScreenReady generates questions that match the competencies and question styles that company actually asks in HireVue.
Practice within the same time constraints as a real HireVue. Responses are recorded on webcam so you experience exactly the same camera-alone pressure as the real thing.
Get feedback on STAR structure, answer conciseness, filler words, eye contact, and confidence signals — the exact dimensions that HireVue's own scoring evaluates.
HireVue preparation checklist
HireVue questions are almost always behavioral. Prepare 5–6 strong examples that can flex across leadership, teamwork, conflict, failure, and achievement questions. Trying to improvise specific stories under timed pressure is where most candidates fail.
The single biggest camera presence mistake: looking at your own face on screen instead of the webcam lens. To the reviewer, this reads as shifty eye contact. Train yourself to look directly at the lens. Cover your self-view window if needed.
Know your target length before you record. A good STAR answer is 90–150 seconds. If the window is 3 minutes, leave 30 seconds buffer. Practice stopping before the cut-off — a clean ending beats a truncated one.
Good lighting (face-lit, not backlit), clean background, camera at eye level. In a HireVue the visual environment is part of the impression. Do your practice sessions in the same physical setup you'll use for the real interview.
Frequently asked questions
Which companies use HireVue?
HireVue is widely used by large employers including Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Unilever, Nike, Delta, and hundreds of other Fortune 500 companies. Many consulting firms and banks use one-way video screening as a first-round interview format. If you receive an asynchronous video interview link, it is likely HireVue or a similar platform (Spark Hire, Montage, etc.).
Can I retake a HireVue question?
Most HireVue configurations allow one retake per question. Once you use your retake, the answer is final. This is why practice beforehand is critical — candidates who have done 10+ timed practice sessions rarely need their retake, while unprepared candidates burn it on the first question.
How many questions does a HireVue interview have?
Most HireVue interviews contain 3–6 behavioral questions, each with a 2–3 minute response window. Some include a written response section. The full interview typically takes 20–40 minutes to complete. ScreenReady's practice sets match this format.
