Let me structure this before diving in. If revenue is steady but profit is falling, the issue is on the cost side or in mix — so I'd look at three buckets: cost of goods, operating costs, and revenue mix. Starting with COGS: have supplier or input costs risen, or has shrink increased? Operating costs: labour, energy, and logistics are the big grocery levers — energy in particular spiked recently. Mix: are customers shifting to lower-margin categories like staples over higher-margin fresh and prepared foods? I'd want data on gross margin by category over 24 months first, because that single cut usually reveals whether this is a cost problem or a mix problem. My hypothesis going in is a margin-mix shift toward staples plus energy cost inflation — but I'd validate with the category data before committing. Shall I dig into one branch?
