How the Atlassian interview process works
30-minute intro call. Atlassian is known for being transparent — the recruiter will share exactly what values they're evaluating and what the process looks like.
Technical roles have a coding screen; product roles have a case exercise; design roles have a portfolio review. Usually async or take-home.
Structured behavioral rounds — each explicitly mapped to one of Atlassian's five values. Scoring is transparent and shared with candidates after.
Common Atlassian behavioral interview questions
Atlassian's values-based questions are designed to surface collaboration, customer obsession, and openness. Expect questions like:
- "Tell me about a time you spoke up about something that wasn't working, even when it was uncomfortable."
- "Describe a situation where you had to balance moving fast with doing something well. What trade-offs did you make?"
- "Give an example of a time you advocated strongly for a customer's needs when it wasn't the path of least resistance."
- "Tell me about a time you helped a colleague succeed, even when you weren't directly responsible for their area."
- "Describe a change you drove in your organisation. How did you get others on board?"
Tips for Atlassian interviews
Atlassian is unusually transparent — they'll tell you their values before the interview. Each behavioral round maps explicitly to one of them. Prepare one strong story per value.
"Open company no bullshit" is a real value — interviewers reward candour. Don't spin failures into fake positives; own them and explain what you changed.
"Don't #@!% the customer" is about doing right by the end user even when it's costly or inconvenient. Have a specific example ready of going to bat for customers.
Atlassian scorecards are detailed. Vague answers won't score well — you need a specific situation, clear task, concrete actions, and a measurable result every time.
Frequently asked questions
Does Atlassian share interview feedback?
Atlassian is known for sharing more candidate feedback than most companies. After the process they will often let you know which values you scored well or less well on.
How long does the Atlassian interview process take?
Typically 3–5 weeks from recruiter screen to offer. The virtual panel is usually conducted across two days of back-to-back calls.
Is Atlassian fully remote?
Atlassian has a "TEAM Anywhere" remote-first policy — most roles are globally distributed. This makes demonstrating async communication and remote collaboration skills important in interviews.
